"European Symposium on Truck Megawatt Charging" in Berlin 6th & 7th March 2024

We are delighted to announce the successful conclusion of the "European Symposium on Megawatt Charging for Battery Electric Trucks" held in Berlin. This conference was a significant milestone for our HoLa project, which focussed on high-performance charging for long-haul trucking.

The conference brought together 250 participants from 18 European countries, including truck manufacturers, research institutions, infrastructure operators and government. One of the topics of discussion was the the challenges and possible solutions for megawatt charging of battery-electric trucks.

During the event, the first findings of our HoLa project were presented, providing valuable insights and recommendations for the deployment of charging infrastructure and fast-charging points along motorways. It became clear that there will be a substantial increase in demand for fast-charging stations equipped with MCS charging technology in the coming years. To meet this demand, it was proposed to install MCS charging stations along major long-distance traffic corridors, strategically combined with slow-charging stations at public and private parking areas. In order to optimize the use of the limited space along motorways, charging stations should be designed with as small a footprint as possible and areas close to motorways should also be taken into account. Additionally, the possibility of using truck charging locations for multiple purposes, such as MCS charging, overnight charging, or charging passenger cars with trailers, could help maximize capacity utilization and minimize the physical footprint required.

The conference was inaugurated by Daniela Kluckert, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport (BMDV), which is actively supporting the HoLa project as an innovation cluster for climate-friendly truck drive technologies.

The success of the conference has further strengthened our commitment to the HoLa project and its goal of providing recommendations for a nationwide expansion of charging infrastructure for electric trucks. We are grateful for the collaboration and participation of all the attendees - especially the 40 speakers - and look forward to continuing this important work.
